To feed their cows, European farmers are partially dependent on imported soy from Latin America, with a rising concern on GMO and deforestation issues. German consumers are the most concerned in Europe regarding GMO crops. With the support of Danone Ecosystem, Danone Germany, Wageningen University, LFL and LKV, the Profee project aims to encourage a switch to regional sources of protein and improve the feeding practices of family farmers.

Having been trained in feeding management, farmers become less dependent on imported soy, thus on soy and import costs. This in turn will help to maintain the agriculture cultural landscape in Bavaria and improve soil quality.

Danone Germany also counts on a renewed relationship with farmers, and more trust and legitimacy towards German consumers.
