In Spain, about 79% of litter is recycled, mostly thanks to home waste sorting system. Yet there is no formal sorting system in private places like companies, schools, shopping centers, transportation.
Danone aims to increase the amount of recycled plastic (rPET) in its product packaging and build a trustful relationship with its customers.
With the support of the Danone Ecosystem Fund, Danone Aguas de España and its local partner, Fundacio Trijinove, co-created the “Renueva” project to create a waste sorting plant and a collection system that will allow to increase recycling rates of packages in ‘away from home’ channels and to create jobs. This plant is coupled with a Circular Economy Recycling School to empower and train people in Waste Management for them to access to an employment. An interactive app is used to increase the volume of collected packages and participates to the education and awareness on the importance of recycling and stop littering.
This project increases the inclusiveness in the field of training and labour insertion of people with special difficulties.
Aguas Danone boosts its socially responsible image and supports the organisation and professionalization of the recycling industry in Spain, while moving towards a greener bottle packaging.
This project increases the recycling rate of PET in Away from Home channels and reduces the unemployment among fragile populations.
