Women’s empowerment

Gender equality is the concept that all people are free to develop their personal abilities and make choices without the limitations set by stereotypes, rigid gender roles, or prejudices. It is not only a fundamental human right, but a prerequisite for peaceful, sustainable economic growth.

Despite recent decades of progress, women continue to suffer discrimination and violence in every part of the word. And yet study after study has demonstrated that empowering women has a snowball effect, transforming families, communities, economies and environment.

The Danone Ecosystem Fund has worked to embed gender equality and women’s empowerment in each of its projects. We have learned and recorded important lessons along the way, which we hope can serve others in the struggle for gender equality.
